Kannada Rock(s)!!!

Sooper haadu!! Eee Bhoomi.
And a cool band. Swarathma.

onerupee.com

On stepping out of Infinitea (yeah, thats a cool name for a tea shop), I reached for the wallet in my hind pocket to check if I picked up the credit card ( a practice which simply refuses to leave me). As I did so, I saw a beggar on the footpath looking at us. Involuntarily I pulled out a rupee coin for the poor chap. As we proceeded towards him, what gave me a jolt was that...HE DID NOT EVEN ASK FOR IT, and as if its not enough, HE TURNED AWAY. I wish somebody had taken a snap of my face at that point of time. I stood there like a..you know what,my hand almost stretched to give him the money. One seeing this, Suresh started laughing his ass off.

Dude its ONE RUPEE!! Well WHAT NOT CAN A RUPEE BUY YOU.

I now wonder what all can a rupee buy the beggar. Definitely he looked like he smoked ( lets just assume yaar ). The rupee could buy him at least a couple of beedis. He just knocked off his opportunity. Or lets say, he already had his beedis, then definitely it could have bought him a match. Lo, he again knocked off his opportunity.

Forget the whole smoke thing. Anyways, but i still wonder what all a rupee can buy. And the fact that rupee is appreciating with respect to many of its peers in the global economy, I am all the more curious n it. Are you ? Have you wondered what all a rupee can buy ? No ? Start.

(i was intrigued by the website 5paisa.com, so why not onerupee.com, hey why not buy this domain ?)
--- This was intended to be my closing lines, I checked out the domain and sure enoough, there exists a site with this domain name and of all the things its in HEBREW!!!! A website showcasing photo galleries of a trip to the sub continent. SURPRISE !

A wasted weekend

Yet Another Weekend (YAW) comes to an end. I write this while waiting for the most awaited match between Raffa and Federer. Saturday was a borer, with almost nothing to do in the morning, I decided to check out Ganesh's second movie Hudugaata in the night. As I waited for the take away food, I called DK who answered me in a jubiliant voice (of course he was going to booze), what made me feel worse was the fact that boys have hit Mumbai on a pleasure trip, almost, if you consider Matter and MSK fragging to survive at the national level and Gandhi, DK cheering them, a pleasure. All because of stupid outing we had planned and eventually cancelled, I was left out. Anyways, as I heard from the boys, Pannag called up and soon we were at Navrang to check out Hudugata. A rip of the hindi movie Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin, Hudugata actually did not let me down (considering the scorn i have for remakes). Way to go G! U rock!

Come Sunday, i saw the clock strike 12 when i opened my eyes. By the time i had my brunch and was wondering what to do next, a bunch of cousins dropped in. After a long debate on what to do next (i know u are laughing), we decided to go for a beer. Again after the beer we were confronted with the big question. What next. One favored bowling, one a movie, one a pool game and the fourth kept his mouth shut. After a long debate, 2 left for basket ball. One of my cousins said 'All the plans failed'. I smelt success, cause I had no plans and I ended doing exactly the same.

100 / 100 years in solitude

Its almost an year since my close friends chose their paths and parted. Nari left for a business degree and Pavan for his MS. Buddi is still far away and DK decided Mumbai makes it better for him. Barring a few gatherings, a concert and a trip, Gandhi,Bhatta and Locs still feel far.

No idea where me and my solitude are heading.

Couldn’t be stranger…

It was a chocolate treat. She looked beautiful in the dress she was wearing, I bet she would look beautiful in any dress for that matter. She wasn’t fair, but that was no longer my affair. She had this beautiful chocolate complexion. That somehow looked tender, her skin looked so smooth. Her smile ,it was definitely something worth living to see for.

Twice did our eyes meet.
‘Oh shit!’, very unlikely for any normal guy to say that and dodge a girl’s eyes in such a situation. I did.
And then she left. ‘Oh shit!’, I did say that again. That was a long time ago.

‘Strange’ said a friend. Our eyes were glued on a girl trying to cross the busy road in front of us. A hep girl, hair let loose, white top and a low waist jean flashing the Levis tab. ‘Would she ever come to know that I am madly in love with her already?’. Stupid question, needless to say.

‘Strange’ I think as I write this. Would the chocolate girl ever come to know that someone , somewhere would have written something about her? Stupid question, needless to say.

Well , couldn’t be stranger than this.

Shopping..huh me?

Money can’t buy you happiness. Oh yeah! You may say and shoot a rejoinder that who ever made that statement didn’t know where to shop. Sounds perfect sense to me. But to me shopping aint no cake walk.

Shopping or shop hopping, whatever, is simply not my cup of tea. Whenever people ask me to come along shopping, I find it very hard to suppress that uneasy frowning on my face. Well I somehow manage to. I mentally prepare for a criminal wastage of a cool two or three hours. Believe me, I am not even an ounce helpful when it comes to making a choice, let alone for myself, but to others as well. When somebody asks me, what do you think of this, I give this ‘well, hmm…long pause…actually…longer pause’ and finally throw up my arms ‘well its your choice…whatever you like’. And bingo, that’s what they expect, cause the decision is already made and its just for courtesy sake they ask. That’s what even I think, they say, I think I will go for this one. Well did I say anything?

And when I got that gift voucher from a mall that promised the bearer anything worth five hundred bucks, I was left more perplexed than ever in the mall. Trying to buy something which I hardly had any idea about, I roamed all the time just gazing around. After a close to two hour loafing around (cant actually call it criminal wastage, cause there were a lot of chicks around to letch at) I decided to call it a day. Came home with nothing.

Money cant buy you happiness, gift vouchers wont either.

Something fresh.

Well, most of the times I end up liking the title of a book rather than the insides. I am not a fan of Woodehouse in particular, but somehow this title remained in my mind.

Anyways, coming back to the actual stuff, well this weekend was good, surprisingly. For considering the fact that I had, fom previous weekends’ experience, branded them as - as lousy as they come.

Blossoms – My first ever visit to the place on this weekend. Its an amazing place. Was looking for something, but bought something else. Can anybody reading this drop in a comment telling under which publication did Balwant Gargi publish his novels, like Naked Triangle for example. My back started aching after bending over the racks and searching for this particular writer for over an hour. Didn’t want to return empty handed. So bought Fury and Shame by Rushdie instead. Kind of getting a good feeling about our authors. Looking forward to get some hands on Vikram Seth’s stuff.

Nari – This guy needs no introduction. If you are wondering what I am talking about or incase you are somebody new to my blog, Nari happens to be someone or rather something what everyother wannabe geek in 12th std wants to be. An IITian, an admirer of Arts, a vivid reader, a qualified professional, a potential writer and a what not.

Anyways, Nari turned up this weekend. I always look forward for this thing everyweek. He is somebody whom you could talk to for hours on anyhing under the sun.

Among many commons, one major thing is that we are both hopelessly addicted to south Indian strong coffee. And needless to say we found ourselves hanging out and sipping some steaming coffee in Shanti Sagar, looking at the traffic on Sampige Rd, admiring the girls around and,of course, talking. This guy is amazing when he starts talking about philosophy and fine arts. We talked a lot , from Franz Kafka to a ‘perfect universe’ . It was good, after such a long time.

2001:A Space Odyssey – Cinema is a medium. Some come to entertain, some to get entertained, and some, I don’t know how many, to think or seed a thought. Every body is entitled to their own purpose, mine lies mostly in the last of the purposes I mentioned.

The whole of Sunday was devoted for this. I will be damned if I refuse that Stanley Kubrick tops my list of fav directors.

Thoughts I got after the movie:

Do we finally meet our doom because of our dependancy on the machines?

Is somebody really watching us?

Is somebody constantly facilitating our evolution?

If indeed somebody is ,what next?

Well that’s it. Something better than my previous weekends, something fresh.

Bombay!

I dont know if you guys agree with me or not, but to me Bombay has always seemed like a filmmakers' fav. No guys , I know its the cradle for Bollywood and stuff, but I am talking Bombay as a subject.

To me a movie should speak a lot of things, it should speak of not just the characters or the plot but the ambience of the plot and the corresponding characters.Mahesh Bhatt , whom I consider a genius when it comes to making a movie, seems to blend this character in his movies. Right from his 80s works like Daddy or Kabzaa to his latest productions, Bombay has been brought out on the screen in an inimitable fashion.

Another spectacular beginning to a movie was that of Sathya’s. It starts with a voice-over on Bombay, as a land of opportunities ,as a land of possibilities , as a land of the mafia.

Rupam Chitra’s Gharonda is another master piece show casing Bombay in its original , unadulterated style rather than the glitterati of the crappy Bollywood studios. So does Hrisheikesh Mukherjee’s Chotti Si Baat.

It’s a pity that I still haven’t been to the city and feel it.
